Meet your instructor
Hi! I'm Andy McIlwain.
For the last ten years I've helped small businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and aspiring entrepreneurs learn how to use WordPress. I've done it through my volunteer work as a WordPress meetup organizer, and throughout my career in technology companies and digital agencies.
I'm taking part in four big charity bike rides this year, and I'm running these workshops as a way to raise money for all of them - while helping even more people learn how to use WordPress!

What do you need to bring?
A basic laptop is all you need!
All you need to bring is a basic laptop. A WordPress website will be provided for you to learn with, and internet access will be provided by the venue.
No tech experience required.
If you know how to use your computer, a web browser, and a text editor like Microsoft Word, you have all the skills you need to build a website with WordPress. Just follow along!
Which organizations are we supporting?
All proceeds from the workshops go towards fundraising for the following charity rides:

An intensive hands-on workshop like this would usually be priced around $300 to $500. (And those don't include a free WordPress website!)
I'm setting the price at only $100. And for early bird registrants, I'm going even lower: only $40 per person.

Questions & Answers
"How are proceeds allocated?"
A portion of each registration fee goes to covering transaction fees (e.g. Eventbrite), venue rental, and insurance. All other costs (site hosting, administrative tools, time, etc...) are out-of-pocket and voluntary.
The remaining proceeds are allocated to each charity based on my discretion. I'm weighing fundraising deadlines and progress when determining where to allocate the funds.
Workshops will continue to run after the rides have taken place. I've set a goal of $2500 for each charity, totaling $10,000 CAD by the end of the year.

"Are you only doing workshops in Toronto?"
For logistical reasons I'm limiting my 2018 workshops to Toronto and the GTA.
"What's your refund & cancellation policy?"
You can request a refund up to 7 days prior to the workshop. You can also transfer your registration to another person at no additional cost. All registrants will receive a full refund if a workshop is canceled.
