Meet your instructor

Hi! I'm Andy McIlwain.

For the last ten years I've helped small businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and aspiring entrepreneurs learn how to use WordPress. I've done it through my volunteer work as a WordPress meetup organizer, and throughout my career in technology companies and digital agencies.

I'm taking part in four big charity bike rides this year, and I'm running these workshops as a way to raise money for all of them - while helping even more people learn how to use WordPress!

All proceeds from the workshops go towards fundraising for the following charity rides:

PWA Friends For Life Bike Rally

Fundraising for the Friends For Life Bike Rally goes towards the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation. The PWA provides support services, community access, health & therapeutic care, and special programs for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Ride to Conquer Cancer

Fundraising for the Ride to Conquer Cancer benefits the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.

Register for only $100 $40 per person!

An intensive hands-on workshop like this would usually be priced around $300 to $500. (And those don't include a free WordPress website!)

I'm setting the price at only $100. And for early bird registrants, I'm going even lower: only $40 per person.

You get:

  • An intensive hands-on, four hour workshop.
  • A free WordPress website.
  • Access to a private Facebook group.
  • Cheat sheets & worksheets.

And remember: all proceeds go towards fundraising for charity. You're helping raise money for the PWA Friends For Life Bike RallyRide to Conquer Cancer, Ride for Heart, and Great Cycle Challenge.

Questions & Answers

"How are proceeds allocated?"

A portion of each registration fee goes to covering transaction fees (e.g. Eventbrite), venue rental, and insurance. All other costs (site hosting, administrative tools, time, etc...) are out-of-pocket and voluntary.

The remaining proceeds are allocated to each charity based on my discretion. I'm weighing fundraising deadlines and progress when determining where to allocate the funds.

Workshops will continue to run after the rides have taken place. I've set a goal of $2500 for each charity, totaling $10,000 CAD by the end of the year.

Absolutely! If you'd like to support my fundraising but aren't interested in the workshops, check out my individual fundraiser pages:

Every donation helps. Thank you for your support!

"Are there any sponsorship opportunities?"

If you're a WordPress plugin author, theme designer, or service provider, please get in touch using the contact form below. Your sponsorship dollars will help me cover costs and reach my fundraising goals that much sooner.

"Are you only doing workshops in Toronto?"

For logistical reasons I'm limiting my 2018 workshops to Toronto and the GTA.

"What's your refund & cancellation policy?"

You can request a refund up to 7 days prior to the workshop. You can also transfer your registration to another person at no additional cost. All registrants will receive a full refund if a workshop is canceled.
